This is an incredibly detailed and well written book about the process of putting your TV Pilot together. There hasn't been anything like it on the market yet and really fills the gap of how to navigate your TV writing aspirations. It feels modern and addresses the current TV Show landscape perfectly. It's also inspiring and positive, making you WANT to go out, research and write. Highly recommend.

This is a great read and a very useful tool for anyone looking to put together a television series. It provides a thorough and understandable roadmap to take you from initial concept to a pitch ready series package.

Don't spend tens of thousands of dollars going to film school, read this book instead.

Kam Miller's book is the definitive text on how to write a TV Pilot and arc your series. This isn't a quick book of shortcuts. This is an in-depth guide that leads you through the steps of LEARNING how to write a relevant, character driven television series. Ms. Miller has no doubt spent countless hours breaking down current shows and laying them out in a way that makes them accessible to writers creating their own series. Each chapter has a very clear exercise at the end. These exercises help you build your world and create your arcs for the story you want to tell. The format of this book is about giving you the tools that you need as a writer to make your show. Along the way, exercises are EXACTLY THE SAME as what would be asked of you as a professional writer in a writer's room or developing a show for producers or a network. It's hard work, but if you really want to write a show that has a shot of getting made or have a writing sample that will be noticed, use this book.

Very basic guitar arrangements

It is a nice book to have if you are a Hank Willams fan like me. The flat & finger picking arrangemnts are very basic and simple. It is easy to follow and great for beginners.

If you are a more accomplished guitar player and are looking for a book that helps you to play exactly like Hank or sound like Hank William's band, you may be a little disappointed.

I wish Sokolow could show us the exact chords Hank used and included guitar fill-ins and breaks by Hank's band to give us the flavor of Hank William's original recording. Hopefully someday Fred or someone else will do this for us.

Good intro to flatpicking

I have not been playing guitar for very long and I am a huge Hank Williams fan. I learned the chords to his songs but the solos were beyond me to figure out. This book (Although not entirely accurate) helped me learn the basics of flatpicking while making the songs sound recognizable. It is a very good beginner flatpicking and fingerpicking book (I havn't done any of the fingerpicking but I'm sure its good). For the more experienced guitarist, it gives a great starting point for you to embellish upon.
The Tab written in this book I have found to be usefull during the solo portions of the song. I play the Chords while singing and during the instrumentals I flatpick from the book and this works very well.
I like how Sokolow gets you playing right away with all the classic Hank Williams songs.

Hank Williams Songbook

This book of songs by hank williams is nicely done and would make excellent material for those learning flat picking and finger picking. The music is very well laid out in both music notion and tabs for both styles for each song. The finger picking tabs are very clear and well done. If you are looking for a Hank Williams song book where you want to sing and stumm the songs, then put in instumental breaks in between verses, this book is for you. The words are all there with the music. This is a really nice book, I have been playing Hank Williams stuff for twenty years and think this is a nice book.

Update (Nov. 06, 2013): The publisher has released the final answers on its website to most of the problems set in the textbook. This is very commendable as these answers will help any reader to have more confidence in the subject and the reader will then most likely keep the book for future reference as well. The PSpice codes have also been added on the book's website at Wiley. There are compatibility issues between PSpice and the free LT Spice but the reader can still open the PSpice codes within LT Spice.

This book by Choi is indeed a welcomed addition to this field. DC-to-DC power conversion is a necessity for example in drives. Chopping to produce a pulse width modulated signal is pervasive. The author Choi tries to be very pedagogic and makes the book to be suitable for senior undergraduate students or to those having a little background in electricity, electronics and possibly in control systems as well. While the book provides additional materials such as lecture slides on Wiley's website, I do not currently see the PSpice codes that were supposed to be on Wiley's website as well. That said, I would have preferred to see these PSpice codes integrated within the text as then it would have been easy for a reader to follow the example simulations given in the textbook. The author could have also chosen the free LT Spice over the PSpice (as far as I know, LT Spice and PSpice are not compatible with each other).

Furthermore, answers to the end-of-chapter problems are also not provided in the textbook and instead are available from the publisher. This can impede the learning process of those who are trying to study the textbook on their own. I would urge the author and the publisher to consider making accessible at least the answers of Chapter 2 on Wiley's website since any reader who cannot understand Chapter 2 well will have serious difficulties in moving forward in the textbook. Mechanical engineers who are trying to read this book will need a background in low-frequency electromagnetics in order to go through Chapter 2.

The text flows easily with a clean layout. However I remarked that the author very scarcely refers to the other parts of the textbook. This is not a serious flaw but it seems a bit unusual in a textbook. All in all, I do believe that the author has provided specialised information on this subject matter while trying to make the book accessible to undergraduate students as well. Due to the freshness of the textbook's contents, I am giving it a rating of 4. And for the reader who is looking for additional materials in a broader context, I recommend the all-round book: "Switching Power Supply Design" by Pressman et al.

Dickens considered Great Expectations one of his "little pieces," and indeed, it is slim compared to such weighty novels as David Copperfield or Nicholas Nickleby. But what this cautionary tale of a young man raised high above his station by a mysterious benefactor lacks in length, it more than makes up for in its remarkable characters and compelling story. The novel begins with young orphaned Philip Pirrip--Pip--running afoul of an escaped convict in a cemetery. This terrifying personage bullies Pip into stealing food and a file for him, threatening that if he tells a soul "your heart and your liver shall be tore out, roasted and ate." The boy does as he's asked, but the convict is captured anyway, and transported to the penal colonies in Australia. Having started his novel in a cemetery, Dickens then ups the stakes and introduces his hero into the decaying household of Miss Havisham, a wealthy, half-mad woman who was jilted on her wedding day many years before and has never recovered. Pip is brought there to play with Miss Havisham's ward, Estella, a little girl who delights in tormenting Pip about his rough hands and future as a blacksmith's apprentice. I had never thought of being ashamed of my hands before; but I began to consider them a very indifferent pair. Her contempt for me was so strong, that it became infectious, and I caught it. It is an infection that Pip never quite recovers from; as he spends more time with Miss Havisham and the tantalizing Estella, he becomes more and more discontented with his guardian, the kindhearted blacksmith, Joe, and his childhood friend Biddy. When, after several years, Pip becomes the heir of an unknown benefactor, he leaps at the chance to leave his home and friends behind to go to London and become a gentleman. But having expectations, as Pip soon learns, is a two-edged sword, and nothing is as he thought it would be. Like that other "little piece," A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations is different from the usual Dickensian fare: the story is dark, almost surreal at times, and you'll find few of the author's patented comic characters and no comic set pieces. And yet this is arguably the most compelling of Dickens's novels for, unlike David Copperfield or Martin Chuzzlewit, the reader can never be sure that things will work out for Pip. Illustrated Classics on the Cheap - I Love it!

Thought I'd browse Amazon (once again) and see what illustrated classics could be had for a song and pass it on. Kindle book has an active table of contents listing all 59 chapters tho I'd question whether it's really needed since it's merely a page and a half of condensed words reading CHAPTER I, CHAPTER II, CHAPTER III, CHAPTER IV etc. (at least it refreshed my memory as to the Roman numeral "L" being equal to 50 - haha!) If you liked "Great Expectations" the you will also like this illustrated kindle version as it was both well-formatted and the pictures were top notch. Very good book!

It's worth the money for this audiobook!

I love this audiobook: Frank Muller does such a good job of reading Great Expectations, changing his voice for all of the different characters (which is quite impressive in this book, as there are at least 2 dozen!). I use these cds in my classroom and have for years. I had this same set on audio tapes, but after 12+ years, the tapes just gave out. I'm hoping that the cds last longer. I wanted the same reader though, because Frank Muller really brings the characters to life in this version, If you love Great Expectations, this is the audio book for you. If you've never read Great Expectations, but would like to, this is the only version I would recommend! Great reader. Not abridged. Perfect!!

This was one of my favorite Reading/Language Arts book selections from my time in high school back in the 70s. I have read this story over and over again - usually every two years or so. The lesson of hopes dashed, of gratitude forgotten, of undeserved love and kindness is one that resonates today with people everywhere. Disappointment can be a lesson, worth learning.
