Show Don't Tell - But *How* Do You Do That?
Film is a visual medium, and screenwriting is *writing for the screen* - in this Blue Book we look at various techniques to tell your stories visually, using Oscar Winning Films and Oscar Nominated Films as our primary examples: from the first Best Picture Winner "Sunrise" (1927) to the Oscar Nominated "The Artist" (which takes place in 1927) with stops along the way Pixar's "Up" and Best Original Screenplay Winner "Breaking Away" (a small indie style drama - told visually) as well as "Witness".
Our other primary example is "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" - which creates a thinking and feeling chimpanzee through actions, situations, and many other techniques. Seeing is believing - and this Blue Book is filled with 63,000 words of techniques you can use today to turn your words into pictures... and learn how to tell your stories visually.

Insightful and Helpful
By Robert A. Byrne
First off, you cannot find a more useful screenwriting aid for $2.99. Period.
To the book itself. You've heard, "Show don't tell." Movies are stories told in pictures. William Martell gives you example after example, with explanation and insights, of ways to tell your story visually, instead of using dialogue. And it's not done at a superficial level. I haven't seen 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', but I have seen 'Up.' He shows, in great detail, how both of those films consistently told the story to your eyes, not your ears. And while I am not much of a silent films fan, he breaks down some and does an excellent job of showing you how the story is told without/with minimal dialogue.
You will surely come away from this book with a better understanding of how to show instead of tell in your script. And you'll likely choose to use a couple of the tools he identifies and explains.
If he gave a money back guarantee on this book, I don't think anyone would demand a refund. It's that solid.

Best Book on the Subject
By Brian
Clear and concise in explaining visual storytelling. Excellent examples. So far, this is the best book available on the subject. I have already recommended it to other writers.

Great practical approach to screenwriting
By bookreader
Inspiration and guidance to enable screenwriters to create imagery in the readers mind. Film is a visual medium but the screenwriter is required to portray that world and those characters using a condensed and word efficent approach. Practical advice as in all of these blue books.
