Poorly written, many mistakes, just horrible

This was the text for my Peds nursing class. If I didn't need it, I would have returned it when I received it. First off, there are multiple spelling errors, obvious ones. Next, while the book organization is decent, the actual chapters are poorly laid out. The review quizzes at the end of the book for the chapters have no answer key, and the errors continue in writing. The online resources for this book are so sparse that it isn't even worth using. If you are looking for a supplemental book for Peds, avoid this one.

I expect a really great book. This is a TINY book with so ...

I needed this book for one of my nursing classes. I will be honest, there were a ton of mistakes. For the price being asked, I expect a really great book. This is a TINY book with so many errors, the price is a disgrace. The chapters are split up by age class "infant, toddler" ect and then there are more chapters based on "cardiac, respiratory, ect" which really helps with understanding and organizing the different materials.
I am more of a visual learner. There are some sections that are great with the amount of pictures and then on others there will be one unhelpful picture throughout the whole chapter. There is a study guide in the back of this book, which would be a plus but you don't get the answers to them. Although, if your teacher has the "teacher's edition" they should be able to give you the answers.
This book has a lot of potential but needs a lot more editing.
It IS a easily understood book but now I am a little wary based on the errors the class pointed out.

I have been a RN for almost 40 years, and have worked primarily with adults. I got this book as a refresher resource, as I am working in a clinic setting now. It is a good resource and review. The text is well written, and easily understood, and the format of presentation is pretty much the same as the provider I work with (pediatrician.)

Tom Markert is CEO of Ipsos Loyalty Worldwide, a Market Research provider to many Fortune 500 companies and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of State Auto, a publicly traded property and casualty insurer based in Columbus, Ohio. He has held leadership positions at ACNielsen, Citicorp, and Procter & Gamble and has held positions on the board of directors of the Australian professional basketball team the Sydney Kings and the American Chamber of Commerce in New South Wales, Australia. He lives in Connecticut.

You'll Pick Up At Least One Really Good Idea, Maybe Two

As I look back on my career in business, I do remember some fights with my bosses. They were wrong, but I was the one that got fired. I've always done pretty good on the first eight rules, but No. 9 is the reason that I've spent most of my career working for myself. That way I can't fight with the boss, or if I do, I can win because I'm the boss as well as the employee.

Rule 16, Read Books, is one with which I completely agree. The best business leaders in the world write books on their lives, philosophies, even business rules. I find that I can't read one of these books without picking up an idea or two that makes the small price of the book.

As stated in the title, this book is a little set of 56 rules for a successful business career. Each rule is only two to four pages long. It won't take long to read, but you'll pick up an idea or two

Been there and met him in many offices

Markert is the typical corporate a-hole. He is the reason why 90 % of employees loath Monday mornings. On the positive side, he and his type encourage employees to quit their jobs and start their own businesses (or to avoid the corporate world altogether) like Starbucks or Google. Places where employees actually enjoy working, aren't humiliated into compliance, feel appreciated and empowered.

The results are obvious..

Lot of useful advice!

I remember seeing YOU CAN'T FIGHT WITH YOUR

BOSS by Tom Markert and

saying to myself, "I know that!"

Then I remembered when I just began my working

life and the fact that nobody taught me that rule then--much

to my eventual dismay . . . I had to learn the hard way,

and I did.

The same could be said about much of the other practical

advice that Markert, a senior executive with ACNielsen, gives in

this short but insightful guide to both getting and staying

ahead at work--and in life, too . . . some of it may appear

basic ("Put in the Hours," "Write Well," etc.), yet it all

makes sense . . . and are things that even the most

experienced of us need to be reminded about from time to time.

What made YOU CAN'T so valuable to me was the fact that

the author backs up his rules with many actual examples of

situations that he has personally been involved in . . . when

reading the book, I often felt myself nodding in agreement--and

thinking to myself who would be next best for me to get my copy.

There were useful tidbit that I gleaned in my reading; among them:

* If I have an important issue for my boss, would he or she prefer

a short e-mail, a phone call, a voice mail--or some combination?

If you don't know, find out. The first rule of communicating

effectively with your boss: Give it to them the way they want it.

* If you are traveling, get up on time. "I overslept" doesn't cut it.

I always pack a travel alarm, plus I use the alarm in the room, and

I order a wake-up call. Paranoia? Nope, I just want to get to where

I'm going on time.

* A colleague of mine has a plague above his desk that reads:

DWYPYWD

It stands for Do What You Promised You Would Do. These are

certainly wise words to live by. If you always do what you promised

you would do, not only is your boss likely to admire you for life, but

your career will move forward in leaps and bounds.

An impressive primer to a complicated subject

Do the English in England speak the same English as the Americans, the Jamacians, the South Africans, the Australians, the Irish, and the Indians? Should they? What does it mean if a majority of English speakers are actually English as a second language speakers? Can we actually assert that one version of English is more correct, formal, or proper than other forms?

Linguist Andy Kirkpatrick raises these and many other provocative questions in his exceptionally documented book "World Englishes: Implications for International Communication and English Language Teaching" published by Cambridge. The enclosed audio CD might be the best, brief introduction to the subject as you hear a wide diversity of voices and accents tell stories and read poems in .... English? Or is it Englishes? As a native of the United States, I had little problem with the women from Charlotte, North Carolina describe her childhood picking cotton or Downeast Maine woman who switches accents and vocabulary depending on her audience. Yet I struggled - and struggled is the right word - to comprehend Africans, Caribbeans Islanders, and Irish on this CD. If the goal is international communication, than many folks on the CD fail to communicate with English as an International language standard.
Yet Kirkpatrick argues that English is spoken in particular contexts to specific audiences. What is proper, Kirkpatrick, argues depends more on circumstances and purposes than absolute standards. As a result, he is far less comfortable than most ESL or English language teachers in asserting the "correctness" of pronunciation, vocabulary, spelling, and even grammatical functions.

This provocative book makes a powerful case for a politically correct, and increasingly influential, perspective. English language teachers, immigration activists, linguistics, and standardized test creators will find the 257-page book fascinating. This critically acclaimed book also deserves to be read by language policy experts.
Was I persuaded that World Englishes is a healthier concept than International English? No, not really. But I'm very glad that I had the chance to read this scholarly work.

Emotionally Stunning Reading!

Blurred Lines by Jen McLaughlin had what was probably the best two chapter introductions from any book that this reader has read. The fifth title in the Out Of Line Series, this book can be read as a stand alone title. Blurred Lines has the most sizzling smexy scenes - By. Far. And the sweetest, smexiest, devilish characters you could ever want to read about!

You could be forgiven for getting absolutely and totally absorbed in this book from the first page. This reader sympathises. ;) Right from the beginning chapter the drama, tension and shenanigans of Riley's chaotic introduction were just laugh out loud, heartbreakingly brilliantly written. Add to the mix Noelle and their first meeting and succeeding interludes and dramas has Blurred Lines being just off the charts astounding reading!

Riley with his do the right thing, live a safe life, no questions asked and do what is expected by his family, even at the cost of his own happiness attitude.
Noelle Brandt living life after her parents mistakes. Fleeing Connecticut to make a new life. Enduring losing her husband, surviving and endeavouring to be a successful author.

Noelle comes to Riley's rescue and sparks just fly from the get go. Even intoxicated, Riley's manners are impeccable and his demeanour is absolutely hilarious.

Noelle's attentions to Riley were innocent and laid bare. Their encounters in the hotel room was just mind blowingly scorching, intense. There isn't a smexy scene around that comes close to those encounters - just beyond HOT!

Noelle and Emily's adventures the morning after in Riley's office were hilarious and have you laughing out loud so many times.

Their dalliances are sizzling, their attraction undeniable and genuine. Their portrayal as smart, sassy with attitude and vulnerable and real, grabs the reader with gusto. Additionally the secondary characters within the story were a stand out - Emily, Carrie, Finn and not forgetting Wallace. The drama that unfolds between family leaves readers stunned and the subsequent reactions are at times even comically portrayed. Engrossing isn't enough to say - more like mesmarising from the start and a finale that just melts the reader and will have you not wanting the story to finish. Jen McLaughlin just hit this one out of the park. Could not recommend Blurred Lines enough as a must read.

I'm talking Blurred Lines..I know you want it!!

Loved this terribly short read, only 190 pages! That’s right I am complaining that I wanted this story to last longer! It was your typical recipe of 1 cup woman who lost love + 1 cup man who sworn off love = Instalove Romance Novel, however repetitive the recipe is if the baker sucks then so does the end product and this “baker” didn’t suck. She actually did a great job.

The opening paragraph had me hooked and didn’t let go. I was on an amazing rollercoaster that I didn’t want to get off. Noelle and Riley met under the craziest of circumstances. Noelle and Riley’s start was almost as perfect as their end but not as juicy as their middle. That’s right folks the midway point of this story was when I was most excited! I sat straight up in bed at precisely 4:47a.m and gasped,”NO!” as I clutched my imaginary pearls. You know when you look down at the status bar on your Kindle and realize you’re about to leave this perfect imaginary world and want 100 more pages to magically appear? Yeah that about sums it up. This book is actually part of a series. It is book 5 of the Out of Line series, which focuses on Carrie & Finn, Riley’s best friends. I’m thinking I may just go back and start with book 1 just because I liked this one so much even though it can be read as a standalone. This book can be read as a stand alone, but with the other books in this series you will enjoy it more. I love that Finn and Carrie have a part in this story.

Riley comes home to find his fiancee sleeping with her ex boyfriend, and calls off the engagement.

He goes to a hotel bar and gets drunk off his ass, and meets author Noelle. She invites him to stay in her room because the hotel is sold out due to the convention.

Riley thinks that he can never fall in love again, because he was once in love with Carrie. Noelle is a widow, and she is looking for her happily ever after.

This book was so good, that I would definately recomment it others.
