I Love Her, That's Why!, first published in 1955, is an entertaining look at the life and career (to 1955) of comedian George Burns and his wife Gracie Allen. From humble beginnings in New York, Burns and Allen went on to become much-loved stars of stage, radio, television, and the big-screen, one of the few entertainers to be successful in each venue. The book begins with Burns' childhood and early struggles in vaudeville before he meets Gracie Allen. Burns then details his efforts to win her affections; their marriage and adoptions of two children; radio, film, and TV productions (including the script of a 1955 show for their television series). Included are 16 pages of illustrations. George Burns, born in 1896, passed away at age 100 in 1996. Gracie Allen preceded him in death, passing away in 1964.

One of my favorite memoirs

I thought I had read nearly every memoir written by or about my favorite old timers, but this one had escaped me. Written over a decade before Miss Allen's death, this book is much more amusing, as it contains stories I'd never heard from George's pre-fame life. I have been laughing out loud at the anecdotes - and I thought I had "heard 'em all" between Burns, Benny, Cantor, Marx, and the lot. I encourage anyone who loves these old stars to get this book. This one is fresh and new to me, even though it was written in 1955. A hidden gem!

The early years of George and Gracie

The first of several autobiographies written by George Burns, this one focuses on his early life and career. Born in 1896, the ninth of twelve children, Nat Birnbaum only spent four years attending school, instead opting to spend his youth cutting class, trying to break into showbiz in New York City. He changed his name daily (if he bombed under one name, he figured no one would recognize him under another), but George Burns was the name he used most often and the one which stuck. The book offers a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era when children grew up in conditions that today we would liken to working in a sweatshop. Until her introduction on page 82, each chapter ends with "____ years later I met Gracie." Always selling himself short, Burns was thoroughly convinced Allen was the one with the talent, and he'd have been nowhere without her.

After Gracie (or "Googie," as he called her) enters the story, the focus shifts to his determination to win her affections (she was engaged to another man when they met), honing their vaudeville routine, their marriage, their first short film "Lambchops" (which was adapted from their stage skits), a pair of radio stunts (Gracie's search for her lost brother and her run for President of the United States), the adoptions of their two children, and their television series. Also included is the complete script for the untitled 1955 episode of their sitcom that came to be known as "George and the Missing Five Dollars and Missing Baby," which centers on George's search for a baby photo to include in this very book. Weirdly, there's not a single photo of him as an infant.

During my childhood, Burns was a solo artist continuously cracking wise about his late wife, whom I've finally become familiar with thanks to edited reruns on Antenna TV (and now I love her too!). The book was plugged numerous times on their show but I didn't realize it was real until I saw it sitting on a shelf in a used bookstore... so I had to have it despite the bloated pricetag. Somewhat disappointingly, the radio and TV shows were glossed over quite a bit and virtually nothing was said of their films beyond their first short. However, it's a quick, breezy read, Burns is candid (he even mentions his hairpiece at one point) and he paints a picture of Gracie which is quite different from the zany character that she portrayed. All in all, I'm not sorry I spent the money and I'd highly recommend the book to anyone interested in the lives of Burns and Allen. Now, if only we could get a cheaper kindle edition of the book and uncut episodes of their TV show on DVD, I'd really be a happy camper.

Loved George and Gracie -- Absolutely Love This Book

Love George Burns and Gracie Allen and watch their re-runs late at night on Antenna TV.

While I have not yet finished the book, it it clearly a tribute to them both and to George's devotion to his very talented and loving wife. I am thoroughly enjoying every word of it.

This E-Finance textbook covers all of the topics for entrepreneurs in finance, including cash budgets, valuation techniques different than those of corporate finance, and securities law.

Some of the topics covered, mainly the pre- and post-money valuation techniques are not explained well and are difficult to grasp without outside help. If you are using this book in conjunction with a class, it will be helpful. If you are trying to learn entrepreneurial finance on your own, you will have some difficulty with some of the contents of this book.

Angel's story of Hope!

I love this series! I love Angel and how different she is.

Angel is back with the Gran and the Captain, on her way to see the Emperor after a failed negotiation. Angel is not happy to be back with the Captain, but she is looking forward to see the Emperor and his family. The Prince is now very interested in Angel now, but the Captain is in control of Angel's fate. Or is he? Angel sacrifices herself and with that seals her fate with the royal family. She is destined to be with the Gran for the rest of her abnormal life. Or is she?

I like this book, I like how ever Angel is corner or held captive, she still has hope, she still has something to look forward too. Ceasar and Angel have a rough time this go. I felt torn for her. I see both sides, but the heart wants what the heart wants! LOVE!!!!

I'm looking forward to the next episode in Angel's story.

I never want Angel's story to end

'Angel 6.0: Pursuit' starts straight where 'Angel 6.0: Enslaved' finished, I strongly suggest you read this series in order & not to miss a single 1. You would be missing out.

My mind is in a haze, I've just finished reading 'Pursuit' & find myself trying to catch up with my brain. Events kept coming at me from all angles, Angel's life got tricker, secrets were told, fights were had, lives were saved... this was so fast paced & action packed compared to the last book of the series. I went in, quickly drawn into Angel's story & felt like I'd held my breathe until I'd read the last words, it was so intense! Please universe let Angel have some happiness...

I can't wait to read more of Angel's story, especially after the ending I just read.

Alien cats, space pirates and a gentically engineered human... what could go wrong?

This is Travis Luedke's forth stop in his incredible space opera. Angel 6.0: Pursuit and the stakes are higher and freedom so much further away for Angel. But more than anything she just wants to be back in the arms of Cesar, but nothing happens the way we want it to, especially if the Gran are involved.
These damn cat creatures have been nothing but a nightmare for Angel and she is completely at their mercy. She is still in the Captain's control and wants nothing to do with him. But what Angel is willing to risk could ultimate be her death. That may be preferred at some point. She doesn't want to continue to go along with the Captain, but the Captain isn't willing to budge on the issue. He wants to keep her regardless of the cost.
Oh, Angel will have her say in it, even if it is to protect the Emperor's son. It is a risk she is willing to take and maybe one day, she will eventually end up in the arms of the man she loves. Of course Travis Luedke wouldn't make it that simple. Where's the adventure in that?
Another time and in another space, Angel is struggling with so much more. She is not just the Captain's concubine. She is now in the eyes of the Emperor's son and her heart is with a pirate...
Travis once again spins everything out of control in space and just makes getting to the destination so much trouble. But it is worth the painstaking journey. The not knowing has its advantages... but it keeps me on the edge of my seat wanting more.
Travis takes his crazy alien cats and shows two very different sides to them. There is the evil that we see in the Captain and the hope we see with the Emperor and his family. But the one place we hope Angel ends up in is the furthest place in the spaces, in the arms of a pirate. This is a tangled web of the imagination and I am hopelessly captivated by each new episode!
Another fabulous read by Travis Luedke.
