Good book, covers everything

Great book, covers a lot of subjects. History of the Bergamasco, training, showing, health issues, breed standards, puppy care, senior care and a lot of info on the Bergamasco's one-of-a-kind coat and more. My only slight complaint is sometimes it feels as if the author becomes a little too opinionated on the subject, but you can tell she's passionate about the breed. Also book is full of color photos of this beautiful breed. Overall an excellent book on the subject and well put together. One cool thing to add is the back of the book contains a place entitled "My Bergamasco" where you can write his/her name, place a pic and record important data (vaccinations and such) if need be.

Really good book on the topic. We have our first Bergamasco coming in a month and we feel far more capable about being handle a breed that is utterly uncommon to where we live.

We've been a Bergamasco family since 2002 and love Maria Andreoli's book. Very informative book about the breed, including history, and caring for this special breed. I have the book, and I felt I wanted the Kindle version so that I can share information with people when out in public.

The design world's Willy Wonka

Without a doubt one of the most commented-on books on my coffee table. My friends are amazed they haven't heard of Marcel Wanders before, and I always enjoy introducing them to the legendary Dutch industrial designer.

The beautiful, quite large book is a titillating collective of his work ranging from ethereal, like the now-legendary Modrian Hotel in South Beach Miami, to downright disturbing -- like the Airborne Snotty Vases, oddly-shapen vases inspired after, yes, nostril mucus induced after sneezing. Images from his work for Mooi, Thor at Hotel on Rivington, etc., glitter right off the page. Worth its steep price tag.

Op de Amerikaanse boekensite Amazon moet het bescheiden Nederlandse boekje Wanders Wonders, design for a New Age antiquarisch 175 dollar opbrengen. In het SM's Den Bosch, met 010 de oorspronkelijke uitgevers, kun je het nog gewoon voor de oorspronkelijke twintig euro kopen. Het is een klein neveneffect van de wereldwijde sterstatus die Marcel Wanders sinds het verschijnen van dit boekje in 1999 bereikte.
Vergelijk je het oudere, dunne met het net verschenen zware koffietafelboek dan blijken de producten uiteraard te verschillen: ook zij zijn letterlijk bovenmaats geworden.
Verder zou je verwachten in de korte tussenhoofstukken meer inzicht te krijgen in de denkwijzes, handel en wandel van Wanders. Maar daarover niks.
De teksten uit 1999 en 2009 blijken elkaar zelfs grotendeels te overlappen. Geen halszaak, want waarom zou je per s� als geslaagd ontwerper telkens maar weer nieuwe stellingnames moeten hebben?
Het belangrijkste verschil betreft welbeschouwd het verleggen van de aandacht van het ding naar de designer, zo verraden de omslagen. Voorop Wanders Wonders prijkt de Knotted Chair en op Behind the Ceiling zien we (gewoon) de meester zelf. Wanders designer als zijn eigen logo dat voor ieder product te vermarketen valt. Met een gouden clownsneus, genaamd `nos�'.
Sinds zijn afstuderen in 1985 speelt Wanders luchtig met materialen en ide�en, en valt niet op ��n overeenkomstige vormentaal te betrappen. De deemoedige koffiestick van toen is nu een luxueus hotel in een Golfstaat geworden.
Wat bleef zijn Wanders' ongrijpbare theori�en die een amalgaam lijken van uiteenlopende opvattingen; bijvoorbeeld over het mee ontwerpen van betekenissen.Zingeving en gebruiksplezier vindt hij interessanter dan functionaliteit als "overgewaardeerd ontwerpprincipe", omdat dit dogma zijn droomkastelen en de door hem gekoesterde "eerlijke leugens" in de weg staat. Principes omtrent verantwoord materiaalgebruik of afmetingen negeert hij eveneens. Dus blaast hij recentelijk veel ontwerpen tot onzinnig megalomane proporties op. Niet vanwege het overdonderend efftect: "Soms hebben dingen geen schaal.[...] Voor mij betekent schaal op zich weinig maar niettemin krijgt het de betekenis die eraan gegeven wordt." verklaart Wanders in een nieuwe tekst.
Het gemis aan meer inhoudelijke achtergrondinformatie of een essayistische benadering zullen alleen vakbeschouwers zo ervaren. Wanders' publiek niet.
Dat wil volgens de ontwerper immers door hem betoverd worden: "Daarom werk ik alleen voor vrouwen: ze zijn intelligenter, opwindender en hebben plezier. Ik wil dat ze zich als prinsessen voelen."

Helped me learn about Marcel~ Lots of Hype here.. like a Domus magazine from Italia. Pumping Marketing.... but its good stuff just the same...
Marcel's quotes through out key to understanding developments in the industry. Mr Wanderful.. leads the way to working for Target. More power to him.. but its still design work.. and is only an insect on the ass of Art. He knows it deep down in his Orange soul. The book could communicate the reality more and the marketing less. Show me a Wanders book that is better and I'll buy it.

I received this book and it looked brand new. ...

I received this book and it looked brand new. However, when I began reading it there were major problems. My copy starts on page 33, in the middle of chapter 2. I do not have the forward, table of contents, or any of chapter 1. The book starts at page 33 and then after page 80, returns to page 33 and continues on until the index. I wish I had read the book before the return period had expired. Now I have to buy a completely new copy and will not be reimbursed for this faulty package.

Must read for all content teachers

I recommend this if you're a content area teacher unsure of how to incorporate literacy into your class. Lent gives discipline specific examples and "How tos" through out the text. Excellent resource for the college course I teach on literacy to students with a secondary education minor. Thrilled to use it in class!

Excellent as a broadly scoped reference book

This book is tremendously broad in its coverage of planning topics, though not in depth. Most topics get only 2 pages, though some get 4-5. References are listed for each topic to help you find more detailed information. The book is well organized and indexed. It's loaded with illustrations such as graphs, diagrams, flow charts, line art, photographs, and maps. Most are black and white, but there are 16 color plates that are grouped together and stuck in a seemingly arbitrary position in the middle of an unrelated topic.

Some information is already out of date. For example, on page 580 it says that the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) expired in 2003 and Congress was still debating reauthorization. The new act (SAFETEA-LU) was enacted in August 2005 and is not mentioned.

My only real complaint is that the type is quite small and can be difficult to read for 40+ year-old readers. On the other hand, I understand that if they used larger type this huge, heavy book would be even bigger and heavier.

I also got the electronic, online version of the book and was disappointed in that, again because of the small type. Even using a 20" monitor I had a very hard time reading it. The viewer application that Amazon uses has very limited capability to zoom in on the text so it does not help.

An excellent resource for anyone involved in public sector land-use planning. Contains great detail on many different subjects. Good illustrations throughout. Not the best resource for site planning, though.

Mandatory

This is a mandatory book in an urban planner or college bookshelf, for it has all the necessary information to complete urban projects. It is my handbook and that says all. It is also very well presented with a hardcover in good leather. The only shortcoming that I see is the absence of folded pages with urban plans in a larger scale, or renderings of zoning plans.
